A Tie. It’s not hard to imagine because the Allure of the Seas® and Oasis of the Seas® from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line are sister ships, and two of the newest builds to hit the sea and are on top of Cruise Dreams most popular list. It isn’t just because they’re the largest ships in the world, although cruisers consistently said that was a small part of the “wow” factor for a family cruise.
For family reunions, alumni gatherings, social clubs or really, any group including incentive travel or corporate events at sea, these twin ships are simply amazing! Unless there is a completely homogenous group (and this does not exist), the perfect gathering must have a venue that offers the broadest possible variety of food, entertainment, activity, common areas and FUN. Face it; grownups just want to have fun, too.
Even the kids speak about what they liked best about their experience aboard the Oasis® class ships, after all these sisters are rated the best at sea. Zip lines that are nine decks high, surf simulators and rock-climbing walls that are 43 feet high had every one of them so excited; they could barely get the words out. Of course, an ice-skating rink, hand-carved carousel in the replicated Board Walk, H20 Zoned water park and full sized basketball court is a bit unusual on a cruise ship too.
The younger cruisers are delighted and still amazed to see some of their favorite Dreamworks® characters aboard. Imagine having breakfast with the penguins from Madagascar® or parading around with a big green orgre named, Shrek®. The special Dreamworks® Experience of spectaculars and favorite movies in 3D were something that they could watch again, and again.
For the folks, while dining with dragons and penguins is fun, the preference was definitely for more grown up restaurants and options – which there are plenty. The choice was almost overwhelming with the Main Dining Room offering complimentary, multi-level, multi-course dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner or a choice of New York pizzeria, a sushi buffet, a “dog” house, donuts and even healthy, lighter options. Special occasions can be celebrated in a number of ways but one frequently mentioned was the 5-course James Beard Award-wining dinners that rivaled most land-based meals! Of course the Cupcake Corner and Starbucks was a favorite with every age! Or the many alternate dining experiences including those restaurants and wine bar featured in Central Park.
The entertainment is equally diverse from the more “grown-up” Broadway shows like Chicago and Hairspray to kid-and family-friendly delights like a Madascar themed aquatic show, complete with high divers, synchronized swimmers and penguins. Or how about a DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon Ice Show with Olympic trained skaters and a big-budget Cirque du Soleil-style extravaganza called “Blue Planet” to complete the evening events.
The list could go on and on but what makes these twins so perfect for reunions of every type and groups of every interest, business or pleasure is the sheer variety, innovation and excitement that guests experience the moment they walk on board. It’s just not possible to find a child, a tween, a teen, a young adult, a parent, a single, a grand-parent or even a great-great-great grandparent who won’t find lots to love about these ships and with so much to do on board it’s hard to get them to go ashore.
